Title:
Hebrew Calendar Inquiry With Herman L. Hoeh
Description:
In 2004 the question arose as to old cycle and new cycle dates in the Hebrew Calendar. Some Bible Study notes pertaining to the matter provided opportunity for this exchange of letters between Drs. Germano and Hoeh just before Hoeh's death. Dr. Hoeh held that new cycle leap years began in CE 256. He argued that old cycle leap years should be used in calculating dates for the annual Sabbaths and festivals before CE 256. When using the old cycle pattern the Passover (Nisan 14) in CE 31 begins on a Tuesday night and ends at sunset Wednesday as Nisan 15 begins. Placement of the Crucifixion in CE 31 is consistent with the dating in Codex W (all four gospels) and Jesus' execution on Wednesday afternoon and Resurrection at sunset Saturday.
